🗞️Verizon suffers massive outage

What happened today 🇺🇸,

• A major Verizon outage struck the U.S. around 1pm ET, affecting over 170,000 users with "SOS" mode, dropped calls, texts, and data, while also disrupting some connections for T-Mobile and AT&T customers trying to reach Verizon users…at the time of writing this the outage is still going on and Verizon is working to resolve the issue

• The U.S. State Department said it will pause all visa processing for nationals from 75 countries starting January 21st…some of the countries impacted includes Somalia, Russia, Afghanistan, Brazil, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Nigeria, Thailand, and Yemen

• The Supreme Court did not issue its highly anticipated ruling on the legality of President Trump's tariffs today, despite expectations of the ruling being issued at 10am ET…this marks the second time the ruling was not released when it was expected to be

• NBC News reported that the estimated cost of acquiring Greenland could be between $500 billion and $700 billion based on analyses by scholars and former officials

• A federal court upheld California's new voter-approved congressional maps, rejecting Republicans challenge alleging racial gerrymandering…Republicans plan to appeal to the Supreme Court

• House of Representatives member, Robin Kelly (D-IL) filed three articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem

• The U.S. announced the transition to phase two of the Israel-Hamas ceasefire shifting from the initial October truce to Hamas demilitarization, the establishment of a transitional government for Gaza, and reconstruction efforts

• Elon Musk announced that Tesla will discontinue one-time purchases of Full Self-Driving (FSD) after February 14th, shifting exclusively to a $99 monthly subscription model…read more here

• Meta has laid off over 1,000 employees which is about 10% of its Reality Labs division, after $73 billion in cumulative losses since 2021

• November PPI inflation came in at 3.0% year over year, above expectations of 2.7%…Core PPI inflation came in at 3.0% year over year, above expectations of 2.7%…the data for November has just come out today after the data release was delayed due to the government shutdown

• The price of silver has gone above $90 per ounce for the first time in history, hitting $92.03 per ounce today

• DOW down .09% / S&P down .53%

• Denmark confirmed plans to expand its military presence in and around Greenland, deploying additional aircraft, vessels, and troops

• China reported a record trade surplus of approximately $1.2 trillion for 2025, up 20% from 2024
