What happened today 🇺🇸,

• Epstein victims and survivors spoke out at events/news conferences on Capitol Hill today and courageously recounting their experiences of abuse and demanding the full release of government files related to Jeffrey Epstein, they called for justice, transparency, and legislative action and also announced they may release their own list of abusers and people associated with Epstein if official records remain withheld

• A federal appeals court ruled that President Trump cannot use the Alien Enemies Act to mass deport Venezuelan migrants, including those alleged to be affiliated with the Tren de Aragua gang…the court found no evidence of an "invasion or predatory incursion" by a foreign entity and stated that the administration's emergency claim did not meet the legal standard for invoking the act…the ruling halts rapid removals under this statute but clarifies that the government can still use other legal authorities to expel foreign terrorists from the U.S.

• Florida announced that it will end all state vaccine mandates, including those for children to attend schools, making it the first U.S. state to do so

• The governors of California, Oregon, and Washington have formed the West Coast Health Alliance to coordinate their health policies, particularly to develop independent vaccine guidelines in response to disagreements with the Trump administration

• A federal judge ruled that the Trump administration unlawfully froze nearly $2.2 billion in federal research funding to Harvard University and ordered the funds to be unfrozen and restored to the university

• Dan Kleban, co-founder of Maine Beer Company, announced he is running for Maine’s Senate seat as a Democrat…Kleban joins a growing field of Democrats hoping to unseat Senator Collins

• Newsmax has filed a federal antitrust lawsuit against Fox News and Fox Corporation, accusing them of engaging in an extensive and unlawful campaign to block competition in the right-leaning TV news market

• "Digital content creators" are included among the 68 occupations that the U.S. Treasury Department has deemed eligible for the "no tax on tips" deduction…read more here

• Polymarket has received regulatory approval from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), clearing the way for its official launch in the U.S. after three years out of the market…this approval allows Polymarket to legally offer regulated prediction market trading in the U.S.

• The latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) data showed that U.S. job openings fell to 7.18 million in July which was below the expectations of 7.38 million, job openings are at a 10-month low and there were more unemployed people than positions available for the first time since 2020

• Holiday spending in the U.S. is expected to drop by about 5% in 2025, marking the first significant decline since 2020, with gift spending predicted to fall 11% from last year…this trend is driven largely by Gen Z consumers who plan to cut back substantially on purchases due to economic pressures

• DOW down .05% / S&P up .51%

• Secretary of State Rubio met with Mexican President Sheinbaum in Mexico City to discuss key issues such as border security, combating drug cartels, illegal immigration, and economic cooperation…read more here
