What’s Happening…

It is no secret that the United States is in a dire financial situation. With almost 35 Trillion in debt and no signs of slowing the spending. It is reported that the U.S. will pay 1.14 Trillion in interest payments in this fiscal year. Remember that is only INTEREST, that is not even the total about we have to pay. So basically, the government spends 76% of income taxes on just interest payments. The rest of the money to pay other bills and responsibilities comes from the old printing press. This is fiscal insanity at this point and the United States cannot continue down this path forever. At some point the currency will collapse, and it will happen fast and quick. May not be today, or tomorrow, or in the next 20 years, it it surely will come unless we stop so much reckless spending. The U.S. is only able to sustain this because of our strong infrastructure and military presence around the world. The photo below is of Germany post WWI in which they had to print so much money to pay for the war, it became worthless and kids were playing with stacks of it in the street. It is unlikely a situation like that happens to the U.S. but at this rate who knows.

Who might Harris pick as her running mate? Harris has a few avenues to explore here. She could go with the person who is very recognized, a person who could potentially help her win a swing state, or another diversity hire that the Democrats could boast about.

The first major and obvious choice would be California governor Gavin Newsom. He is very well known in the party and many think or still believe that he may end up the nominee. Newsom is a very well known Democrat, but is from California which will be a lock for Harris in November.

The next and best options are the ones that can help Harris win a swing state. These options would include Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro and Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer. This would be the best strategic move, because let’s face it, the swing states decide the election and at this moment Trump is beating Democrats in virtually every swing state.

Lastly, Harris could pick someone like Pete Buttigieg who worked in the Biden administration as Sec. of Transportation. This pick at this point seems unlikely but Democrats would love to talk about making Buttigieg the first gay VP.

This is shaping up to be the wildest political year in the U.S. since 1968, and like in 1968 the Democratic National Convention will be held in Chicago. In 1968 the convention was a mess there were riots in the streets over the Vietnam war and mayhem inside amongst delegates. Ultimately the party landed on then Vice President Hubert Humphrey as the nominee. A very unexciting pick and someone who was thought of as the status quo to the current Johnson aidminstaion which so many intensely opposed. It was looking like Bobby Kennedy would be the nominee until he was assassinated in LA at the Ambassador Hotel the previous month. The death of Kennedy set the stage for a wild night at the convention. Will history repeat itself and we see another crazy night in Chicago?

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned one day after getting questioned by U.S. lawmakers over security failures that allowed for assassination attempted on President Trump. This was a bipartisan grilling even Democrats calling for her resignation.
