• Pakistan has relayed a U.S.-backed 15‑point peace plan to Iran, but early today Iran reportedly rejected it as “excessive” and accused the Trump administration of past deception and saying it will end the war only on its own terms…the Trump administration still insists talks are underway and has not yet received an official rejection

• President Trump announced that he will meet with China’s President Xi Jinping in Beijing on May 14th and 15th

• Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio‑Cortez have introduced the Artificial Intelligence Data Center Moratorium Act, which would impose a nationwide halt on new AI data‑center construction until Congress enacts strong federal safeguards for workers, consumers, privacy, and the environment

• The White House has rejected Elon Musk's offer to fund TSA workers' salaries during the ongoing partial DHS government shutdown, citing potential legal challenges tied to Musk's government contracts…read more here

• The U.S. Army has raised its maximum enlistment age from 35 to 42, effective April 20th, this move aims to address recruitment challenges by aligning the Army's policy more closely with other military branches

• The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has announced it will impose an 8% surcharge on all packages to offset rising fuel costs

• President Trump has announced the appointment of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Oracle Executive Chairman Larry Ellison, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), which is an advisory body focused on AI policy and emerging technologies

• A Los Angeles jury found Meta (Facebook/Instagram) and Google (YouTube) responsible for a California teen's social media addiction, ruling their addictive design features caused her mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts

• A New Mexico jury also ruled that Meta's platforms harm children's mental health and safety by violating state consumer protection laws through misleading claims about child safety measures…the verdict imposes a $375 million civil penalty on Meta, though Meta plans to appeal the ruling and continues to deny any wrongdoing

• Mortgage demand dropped over 10% last week as rates surged to their highest level since October, with the average 30-year fixed rate climbing to 6.43% up from 6.30% last week
