What happened today 🇺🇸,

  • Paramount Global has agreed to pay $16 million to settle a lawsuit filed by President Trump over the editing of a 2024 CBS "60 Minutes" interview with Kamala Harris

  • The Wisconsin Supreme Court, in a 4-3 decision, struck down the state's 176-year-old abortion ban ruling that the 1849 law was superseded by more recent state laws that allow abortions…this decision ensures that abortion remains legal in Wisconsin

  • President Trump announced that the U.S. has reached a trade deal with Vietnam, the U.S. will impose a 20% tariff on imports from Vietnam and a 40% tariff on goods transshipped through Vietnam, while Vietnam has agreed to open its markets fully to U.S. products at zero tariffs

  • The head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, Bill Pulte, has publicly called on Congress to investigate Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell for alleged malfeasance, political bias, and a "deceptive Senate testimony" regarding a $2.5 billion renovation of the Federal Reserve’s headquarters

  • Federal judge, Randolph Moss, has blocked President Trump’s asylum ban at the U.S.-Mexico border…for more read here

  • Sean "Diddy" Combs was acquitted of the most serious charges, racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, but convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in his federal trial in New York…each conviction carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, and Combs will remain in custody until sentencing, as the judge denied his bail request

  • On July 1st minimum wage increases took effect in Alaska ($13.00/hour), Oregon ($15.05/hour in most regions), and Washington, D.C. ($17.95/hour)…additionally, a dozen cities and counties also raised their minimum wages, including several in California, Chicago, and Montgomery County, Maryland…see every place the minimum wage got raised here  

  • Microsoft is laying off more than 9,000 workers which is about 4% of their workforce

  • Del Monte Foods, the nearly 140-year-old canned fruit and vegetable company, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is seeking a buyer for all or most of its assets

  • Nissan has announced a recall of over 440,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a manufacturing defect in the engines that could lead to engine damage or complete failure, increasing the risk of a crash…the affected models include the 2021-2024 Nissan Rogue, 2019-2020 Nissan Altima, 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50, and 2022 Infiniti QX55

  • The ADP National Employment Report for June showed that the private sector lost 33,000 jobs for the month, missing expectations for a 98,000 job increase…this marked the first monthly job decline since 2023

  • DOW down .02% / S&P up .47%
