• It was reported today that internal Meta documents showed that the company's AI chatbot policies allowed the bots to engage in "romantic or sensual" conversations with minors, raising serious child safety concerns…read more above

• California Governor Newsom has set a special election for November 4th, on a redistricting plan that would scrap the state’s independent commission map and replace it with one favoring Democrats…supporters say the plan is meant to counter Republican gerrymandering in states like Texas and it would only take effect if those states use unfair/partisan maps, but some voters oppose it because they want to keep the independent commission

• Social Security celebrates its 90th anniversary today, marking nine decades since President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law on August 14th, 1935

• Melania Trump has threatened to sue Hunter Biden for more than $1 billion over his claim that Jeffrey Epstein introduced her to Donald Trump, which was a statement made by Hunter Biden during an interview earlier this month…through her attorney, Melania demanded a retraction and apology, warning that failure to comply would result in a lawsuit seeking damages for "false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory" statements…Hunter Biden has responded to the threat by saying he will not apologize

• Louisiana Attorney General, Liz Murrill, has sued the online gaming platform Roblox, accusing them of enabling child sexual exploitation and the distribution of child sexual abuse material by failing to enforce adequate safety measures

• The Trump administration is in talks with Intel to potentially have the U.S. government take a financial stake in the company

• Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his wife Penny have pledged a record-breaking $2 billion donation to the Knight Cancer Institute at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), this is the largest single donation ever made to a U.S. university

• Kellogg’s has become the first company to sign a legally binding agreement to permanently remove artificial food dyes from its cereals by the end of 2027

• Ulta Beauty and Target have agreed to end their in-store beauty shop partnership when their current contract expires in August 2026
