  • President Trump announced the U.S. will impose a 25% tariff on goods imported from India starting August 1st…this tariff is in response to India's high tariffs on U.S. goods and additional "penalties" related to India's purchases of military equipment and energy from Russia

  • Texas Republicans released a new congressional redistricting plan during a special legislative session…the proposed map aims to redraw district boundaries in key areas such as Dallas, Houston, Austin, and the Rio Grande Valley, with the goal of adding up to five new Republican seats in the House of Representatives

  • Dr. Vinay Prasad, the FDA's chief scientific officer and director of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, has resigned after less than three months in the position

  • Hershey and Mondelez are teaming up to launch two hybrid products this fall, the Reese’s Oreo Cup which features Oreo's milk chocolate and white crĆØme replacing the usual Reese’s cup chocolate coating, and the Oreo Reese’s Cookie which includes Oreo cookie crumbs in the filling…these items will debut in U.S. stores starting September 2025

  • High Noon has recalled certain Beach Variety 12-pack vodka seltzers shipped in late July due to cans being mislabeled as non-alcoholic Celsius energy drinks which could risk unintentional alcohol consumption…as of writing this no illnesses or adverse events have been reported

  • The Federal Reserve announced that it will keep interest rates unchanged at the current range of 4.25% to 4.5%, this marks the fifth straight meeting that the Fed has kept interest rates steady

  • In the second quarter of 2025, U.S. GDP grew at an annualized rate of 3%, this was above the 2.6% that was expected and rebounding sharply from a 0.5% contraction in the first quarter

  • The ADP Employment Report showed that U.S. private employers added 104,000 jobs in July, above the expectations of 77,000 and rebounding from a loss of 23,000 jobs in June

  • DOW down .38% / S&P down .12%

  • Australia will ban children under 16 from creating YouTube accounts starting in December 2025 as part of a broader move to restrict minors from all major social media platforms…children will still be able to watch YouTube videos without an account, but cannot upload content or interact on the platform
