🗞️Harvey Weinstein convicted and acquitted

What happened today 🇺🇸,

• Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of a first-degree criminal sexual act in his New York retrial for assaulting Miriam Haley, while being acquitted on another charge and with one charge still undecided that jurors will return to the courthouse tomorrow to continue discussing…Weinstein faces up to 25 years in prison in addition to his existing 16-year sentence from a previous California conviction

• President Trump said that the trade deal with China is done, subject to final approval with President Xi and himself…U.S. tariffs on China will be 55% and Chinese tariffs on the U.S. will be 10% and part of the deal as well is that China had agreed to supply U.S. companies with magnets and rare earth metals, while the U.S. would walk back its threats to revoke visas of Chinese students

• Elon Musk posted on social media that he regrets some of his posts about President Trump last week and that he went “too far”…it was also reported that this post came after a private phone call Musk had with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and VP Vance last Friday

• The U.S. is evacuating non-essential diplomats and their families from its embassy in Baghdad, as well as from diplomatic facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait, due to heightened security threats amid escalating tensions with Iran and stalled nuclear talks

• Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, has deployed the Texas National Guard across the state, including to San Antonio, in anticipation of large protests against federal immigration enforcement and ICE raids…read more here 

• The U.S. House of Representatives voted 213-207 to passed $9.3 billion worth of DOGE and other spending cuts

• Tesla’s tentative launch date for their Robotaxi is June 22nd starting in Austin, Texas

• General Motors announced it will invest $4 billion over the next two years to expand production at its U.S. manufacturing plants in Michigan, Kansas, and Tennessee increasing capacity for both gasoline and electric vehicles

• Wendy’s has started selling their bacon and burger patties in Kroger grocery stores and Cheez-It and Wendy’s have partnered up to create a limited-edition Baconator Cheez-it Cracker 

• May CPI inflation came in at 2.4% in-line with expectations, Core CPI inflation came in at 2.8% below the expectations of 2.9%

• DOW flat on the day / S&P down .27%

• Puerto Rico, which is a U.S. territory, has put forward several proposals to separate from the U.S. and realign with Spain
